Inkjet printers do a great job on text printing but many people do not know that you don't need a photo printer to make great photo printouts. Sure a photo printer is going to do a superior job and a little faster but you really don't need a photo printer for spectacular photo quality prints. Most inkjet printers on the market today have a mode for printing on photo glossy paper. If you use good quality photo glossy paper, 7 - 10 mills in thickness, you can get a picture perfect print. A good quality digital camera helps too.
Most digital cameras sold today have the capability of making a decent print even on the lowest resolution. Of course if you want a better print you need to use a higher resolution on your camera.I won't go into resolution settings here because everybody has their ownidea of what their perfect resolution is and my inbox would be flooded. :-)My point with this article is to get people to use the right printer setting ifthey want great photo prints. If you try using regular 20 lb bond paper using the printers general settings you will be very disappointed with the results.Get some good quality glossy paper and try this test. Make a print on regular paper using general settings.
Then make one with your printer set to glossy paper using high quality mode and compare. The first will look like a water colored newspaper picture. The second will look like you just got it back from Kodak! This is not news to a lot of you but a surprising number of people readingthis will suddenly go "hhhmmmmm, that explains some things"..

Are you getting tired of the high cost of printing? You're not alone. Many consumers are up in arms. For example, they believe paying $22 per ounce for printer ink and $150 to $300 (or more) for a toner cartridge is way too much. Most of the major printer manufacturers have adopted the same marketing model as the razor blade, TiVo and cell phone industry. Simply stated, they sell you the printer for cost or less in order to sell you printer ink and toner cartridges at huge markups.
In many instances, they charge seven to ten times what it costs to manufacture these products. In addition, these major companies spend thousands of dollars trying to convince you to purchase only their products. They strongly criticize printer ink and toner cartridges offered by third party companies. However, did you know that many of these major companies are now selling their own recycled cartridges? and you're still paying full retail price for them! As someone once said, to get a real education,...

Printer Cartridge Economics -- Four Ways To Make Your Ink Last Longer
Printer cartridge overheads can be a major expense for any busy office -- and even if you're working at home, it's important to factor in the amount you spend on your printer ink when assessing the cost of running a home-based business. And what you spent on that bargain-priced printer may turn out to be only a fraction of what you pay annually in printer supplies.A family household may have several printers on the go, each requiring its own specialist cartridges. The kids are doing their homework, researching information online and printing off reference material before drafting and printing homework papers. Digital photography is great, but grandma doesn't have a computer (let alone an e-mail account!), so you're making high quality prints of your son's graduation ceremony to mail to her. And you have to proofread some important work documents by tomorrow -- and you know you can't check text accurately from the computer monitor, so ...If you're anything like me, you can't imagine working...

Photo Printing: Is It Changing the Printer Industry? And Who Leads the ?Pack? - HP, Epson, Canon, Lexmark or Another Entirely Different Brand?
San Diego, CA (ContentDesk) June 30, 2005 -- The face of printing has dramatically changed over the last two to three years yet never so much as in the last 12 to 18 months.
The barrage of new photo printers as well as the onslaught of less-expensive yet high quality digital cameras in the marketplace has made their mark in the printing world.
The average consumer now looks to print their own photos from home which has had a positive bottom-line effect for the manufacturers of ink cartridges and papers.
However, the additional revenues will be even stronger in the coming months with dramatic increases during the holiday months due to the extremely high number of photographs taken and shared during the holiday season. The consumption rate of ink cartridges is much higher particularly in the last year due to heightened use of the home printer.
The greatest increase in printing is photographs as well as graphics such as invitations, flyers and the like...

Commercial Photo Printing
With the increasing use of digital cameras in homes across the U.S., people widely experiment to get printouts of their photos. The most common option is to use a desk printer to address their printing needs. The above practice may prove economical for occasional use, but if you want to get more printouts from your desk printer it becomes an expensive affair. A lot of money will go toward producing low-quality photographs, considering the cost of ink cartridges and photo paper.
Commercial photo printing machines give you bright, high-quality pictures which are otherwise not possible to get at home. It is always advised to take your precious photographs to a professional printer who would do justice to the memories captured by your camera.
The printers manufactured for home use are not geared to produce quality pictures like their commercial counterparts. Even though some may have color printing facilities, they can never match up to the finish and elegance the commercial...
